Our Mission
Piedmonters for Inclusive Education (PIE) partners with families, educators, and the Piedmont Unified School District to ensure that students with disabilities and neurodivergences, including those with IEPs and 504 plans, receive the support and resources they need to thrive and belong.
Our Vision
A Piedmont community where every student feels a deep sense of belonging, inclusion, and support — academically, socially, and emotionally — and where differences are understood, respected, and celebrated.
Our Approach
We advance our mission through:
Connection — building a strong network of support for families, students, and educators.
Collaboration — partnering with the district, teachers, and community organizations to strengthen schools and foster inclusion.
Advocacy — championing access, equity, and robust special education services across Piedmont schools.
Education — equipping families and students with knowledge, tools, and resources to help them succeed.
Acceptance — fostering understanding of, and embracing, disability and learning differences throughout the community.
What we have accomplished
PIE has achieved significant milestones in strengthening Piedmont schools and fostering inclusion in the community. Over the years, we have donated tens of thousands of dollars to fund programs and services identified by parents, faculty, and administration. Funds have supported supplies and resources including curriculum materials, database memberships, field trips, and classroom furniture. We have also hosted free educational events for all families.
With your help, we have:
-
Through potluck brunches and holiday celebrations, we have consistently brought the PIE community together, creating a welcoming space where families can share experiences, exchange wisdom, and offer support to one another.
-
Provided specialized digital subscriptions and teaching tools, including software for Speech and Language Pathologists.
Funded math curriculum tools and supports for the Counseling Enriched Learning Center.
-
Delivered multi-sensory literacy training and Kimochi kits to help students better understand and communicate their emotions.
-
Brought in experts to discuss topics ranging from navigating the IEP process to supporting children with anxiety, and showing how Universal Design for Learning can benefit all students. Watch past talks on our Youtube channel or check our Events page for upcoming sessions.
-
In 2025, we launched our first Sidekicks Benefit Concert featuring a local band of Piedmont parents, The Date Nights. The concert raised thousands of dollars for the Piedmont Recreation Department’s Sidekicks program, which trains local teens to support safe, fun, and inclusive after-school classes and summer camps for neurodivergent children.
