Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF) IEP Workshop

Join DREDF Education Advocate Andrea Yu for a comprehensive look at the IEP process from start to finish. Andrea will walk attendees through parents’ rights, how to navigate the IEP document, and practical steps families can take when the process isn’t working as it should.

The session will also explore the foundational principles of the IDEA, covering key concepts such as free appropriate public education, least restrictive environment, the right to an independent educational evaluation, and what meaningful parental participation truly looks like.

Andrea Yu is an Education Advocate at DREDF, a leading national civil rights law and policy center founded in 1979 and directed by individuals with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities. Andrea brings seven years of hands-on school experience to her role, having worked as an afterschool program leader, preschool teacher assistant, and special education paraprofessional. Through that work, she discovered a deep passion for supporting students with disabilities and their families, a calling that led her to become a special education preschool teacher. She remains dedicated to the students and families she has worked with and looks forward to extending that impact to more communities through DREDF.
